
A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in a highway robbery incident near Gomoa Buduatta on the Kasoa-Winneba road.
Mohammed Bello was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2025, after he and four other suspects, who are currently on the run, allegedly attacked several drivers and passengers at Dabayin junction.
The group is said to have taken mobile phones, electronic gadgets, personal items and an unspecified amount of cash from their victims.
According to the Central East Regional Police Command, Bello was arrested while attempting to flee.
Officers said he was found in possession of GH¢3,740.00 in cash, two Samsung smartphones, a Tecno Spark 20, an Itel keypad phone, an Itel power bank, a lady’s purse, five sticks of cigarettes, a wristwatch, a headset, a phone charger head, and a pair of sandals later identified by one of the victims.
He was arraigned before the Ofaakor Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 8, where he pleaded guilty to charges of robbery.
He was sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
Mr. Bello’s accomplices are still at large.
The police say they are pursuing them and will bring them to justice.
