The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted a GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties to a farmer who allegedly threatened to harm a businessman and his employees.
Ali Baba Maigah, 28, had gone to induce Sadat Osmanu, the complainant and a tenant, to vacate his father’s store.
The accused person’s father had allegedly defrauded the complainant of GH¢30,000 under the pretext of securing him a store.
This also led to the threat of harm, causing Ali Baba to be arrested.
His wife, Brahina Yakubu, is also charged for causing unlawful damage to the complainant’s car windscreen, valued at GH¢1,850.
Ali Baba denied that he had threatened to harm the complainant’s workers.
The court, presided over by Ms Enid Marful-Sau, ordered that Ali Baba reappeared on April 2, 2025, for the Case Management Conference.
Meanwhile, a bench warrant has been issued for the arrest of his accomplices: father and wife.
It also ordered the prosecution to serve the accused person with the necessary materials.
Police Chief Inspector Frederick Ansah-Awuah, giving the facts, said the complainant was a businessman who wanted a store to rent.
The accused persons are Brahina Yakubu, Ali Baba’s wife, Issaka Maiga, 62, his father, and Ali Baba. Brahina Yakubu is at large.
The prosecution said Ali Baba lived in his father’s house with his wife, and in August, 2024, the complainant, who wanted a store to rent, contacted one Mallam Mutala, the Imam at Manhean in Accra.
Mallam Mutala led the complainant to lssaka’s house at Manhean where he showed him one of his stores, to which the complainant paid GH¢30,000 for five years.
Lssaka, after taking the money, failed to pick the complainant’s calls, the court heard.
However, the complainant went ahead to do the finishing works in the store only to detect that it had been occupied by an unknown person.
The prosecution said the complainant decided to work in the adjacent store, and during the work, Ali Baba went to collect the tools from the workers and further threatened to beat them if he saw them again in that store.
The complainant made several attempts to work in the store, but Ali Baba prevented him while his calls to the father went unanswered.
On November 11, 2024, a formal complaint was made to the Amasaman Divisional CID and lssaka was called but he never picked the calls.
The next day, the complainant went to the store with the workers, but Ali Baba went to attack them again, the prosecution said.
Prosecution said Ali Baba was arrested and while he was being transported in the complainant’s Ford vehicle to the police station, Brahina, his wife, subjected them to abusive words.
She also threw a stone through the right back door, causing damage to the front windscreen of the Ford, valued at GH¢1,850.
In Ali Baba’s caution statement, he admitted sacking the complainant from working in the store.
On November 18, 2024, the police received information that Issaka was arrested in a similar case at Nsakina, a suburb of Accra.
After careful investigation, father and son were charged by the court, but the father failed to turn up.
Meanwhile, police are making efforts to get Brahina arrested for questioning.
